Story Overview

Lucas attends Hero Training School but is disappointed that he only gets assigned boring "sidekick duties" like organizing belts, polishing gadgets, and sorting supplies. However, when Captain Mighty gets tangled on a flagpole during a rescue mission at the City Tower, Lucas uses the knowledge he gained from his chores to operate the rescue equipment and find spare goggles. Captain Mighty is freed and completes the rescue. He praises Lucas, explaining that knowing how everything works is vital. Lucas realizes his chores were actually important training and proudly continues his work, knowing he is a real hero.

What makes a real hero?

Lucas wondered this every single day at Hero Training School. He wanted to leap tall buildings and rescue people from danger. But every morning, Captain Mighty gave him the same job: "Lucas, please hold my cape while I fly."

"Sidekick duties again," Lucas sighed.

On Monday, he organized Captain Mighty's utility belts. *Click, click, click* went the buckles.

On Tuesday, he polished the buttons on the Hero Gadgets until they went *squeak, squeak, squeak*.

On Wednesday, he sorted the messy Supply Room while Captain Mighty flew off to save the day. "Sidekick duties, sidekick duties, sidekick duties," Lucas repeated sadly.

Then Thursday arrived.
