Staying safe
Stories about staying safe for children: road, water and fire safety, getting lost, staying safe online and getting help in an emergency.
1 story
Children are curious about everything, including the things that can hurt them: a hot stove, a busy road, deep water, a high wall to climb.
They need to learn the rules that keep them safe, why those rules exist, and what to do if something does go wrong, whether that is getting lost in a crowd, seeing smoke, or meeting something worrying online. Too many warnings at once, though, can make the world feel frightening.
A story lets your child meet danger at a safe distance. Characters can spot a hazard, stop and think, listen to the grown-ups around them, stay calm and find help, and your child can rehearse those steps along with them. The rules become part of a story they remember rather than a list of things not to do.
On this shelf you will find stories about everyday safety at home and outdoors, near water, roads and fire, staying close in busy places, staying safe online, and knowing how to get help in an emergency.
