Story Overview

Owen discovers a secret attic in his grandmother's house and learns she used to be a superhero called the Golden Guardian. He activates a gadget called the Kindness Detector, which alerts them to a scared dragon in need of help. Grandma gives Owen a cape, and together they go to the park where Owen uses empathy to comfort the frightened creature while they bandage its wing. The dragon flies away happy, and Owen goes to sleep realizing that true heroism comes from kindness, accepting his new role as a superhero in training.

What did Grandma keep in her attic? Owen had wondered this his whole life.

Every Saturday, Owen visited Grandma's cozy house with the squeaky porch and the garden full of flowers. But the attic door always stayed locked. "Just old things," Grandma would say with a mysterious smile.

One Saturday morning, Grandma had to answer an important phone call. "Make yourself at home, sweetie," she said, hurrying to her study.

Owen noticed something amazing. The attic door stood open—just a crack. His heart thumped with excitement. This was his chance!

He climbed the creaky stairs. One step. Two steps. Three steps up.

The attic smelled like dust and adventures. Sunlight poured through a round window, lighting up the most incredible room Owen had ever seen. Capes hung on silver hooks—red ones, blue ones, and one that shimmered like starlight. Masks covered the walls like colorful paintings. A workbench was covered with strange gadgets that blinked and hummed.

In the corner, Owen spotted a photograph. His heart nearly stopped. The picture showed a young woman in a golden cape, flying above the city. She wore a mask, but Owen knew that smile anywhere.

"Grandma was a superhero!" he whispered.

The words felt magical in his mouth, so he said them again. "Grandma was a superhero!"

Owen explored carefully, touching each treasure gently. He found boots that looked like they could jump super high and gloves that looked sticky.
