This story shows how rigid plans can bend when real life gets messy, encouraging children to observe their environment and adapt rather than giving up. It introduces real prairie ecology, such as rainfall zones and bison wallows, in an active adventure. Afterwards, you might ask your child about a time one of their own plans went sideways and how they managed to finish anyway.
